Attorney Xinli (David) Li Attended the “Supporting Chinese Enterprises Going Global – Australia Session” and Spoke at the Roundtable Forum
On April 14, 2025, the “Supporting Chinese Enterprises Going Global – Australia Session” was successfully held at SGLA Law Firm’s Shanghai office. The event was co-hosted by SGLA Law Firm and H&C LAWYERS (Australia). The exchange focused on an in-depth interpretation of Australia’s FIRB and its mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal framework. A roundtable forum was held as part of the session, bringing together legal representatives from both China and Australia to exchange insights on cross-border investment practices. Attorney David Li, Partner at SGLA Law Firm, was invited as a roundtable panelist and shared his views on key topics including “the most frequently asked legal concerns of Chinese enterprises investing in Australia” and “collaboration between Chinese and Australian law firms.”
During the discussion, Attorney Li pointed out that Chinese clients are generally concerned with issues such as security assurance, labor compliance, export control regulations, and how to ensure legal compliance in specific transactions. He noted that these concerns not only involve an understanding of Australian law, but also highlight the cultural and institutional adjustments that enterprises must make during outbound expansion.
On the topic of China–Australia legal cooperation, Attorney Li emphasized that each side brings distinct strengths and that there is ample room for collaboration. By coordinating between legal teams in both countries, enterprises can streamline communication, reduce procedural costs, and enhance overall efficiency. Mr. Li’s insights received unanimous recognition from fellow participants.
The event opened with a keynote address by Mr. Zhou Bo, Principal of SGLA Law Firm. Ms. Nancy He, lawyer at H&C LAWYERS and Mr. Timothy J Jay, special advisor at H&C LAWYERS, delivered thematic presentations on topics such as “Overview of Outbound Investment into Australia,” “FIRB Rules – A Guide to Australia’s Foreign Investment Laws,” and “Australia’s M&A Legal Framework.” Through his participation in the forum, Attorney Li deepened connections with Australian legal professionals and contributed to providing more practical legal pathways and compliance guidance for Chinese enterprises investing in Australia.
